Fraud Alerts: Protect Yourself and Your Money

At Unison Credit Union, your financial security is our top priority. We have multiple systems working behind the scenes to help keep your accounts safe, and our team is trained to spot and prevent fraud. But we can’t do it without your help.

Here are a few important ways you can protect yourself—and your loved ones—from fraud and scams:

  1. Watch out for imposter scams

Scammers may call pretending to be a family member or friend in need of money. If you ever get a call like this, pause before reacting. Ask a question only that person would know or request a callback number. Then, hang up and call a close relative—or even the supposed caller directly—to verify the story.

  2. Be cautious with suspicious texts and emails

We’ve seen an increase in fraudulent text messages asking you to click on a link or call a number. These are attempts to trick you into sharing your personal information. Delete these messages right away—do not click or call.

  3. Don’t fall for fake purchase alerts

Members have reported phone calls claiming a “pre-authorized purchase” was made through Amazon or Walmart. The scammer will then ask you to call back to confirm or cancel the order. This is a common fraud tactic—do not engage with the caller.

  4. Know what Unison will—and won’t—ask

Unison Credit Union will never ask for your:
    • Online banking login credentials
    • Passwords
    • One-time passcodes
    • Debit card (we might verify the last 4 digits – but never the full 16 digit number)
    • PIN

We may send you a text to confirm a transaction, verify card activity, or check before allowing high-risk digital banking activity. But we will never request your login details, PIN, or entire card number.

If you ever receive a call, text, or email from someone claiming to be Unison Credit Union and they ask for sensitive information—hang up immediately. Call us directly at 920-766-6000 to verify.

What to do if you’ve shared information. If you believe you’ve accidentally given your account or card information to a scammer, call us right away at 920-766-6000. The sooner you act, the faster we can help protect your account.
