The Spirit of Giving: 2017 in Review

The holidays are busy. When it’s time for hanging stockings, trimming the tree, and shopping for presents, it can be easy to forget that the best gifts are the ones you give, not those you receive. In the spirit of giving, we strive to support our communities through ongoing donations to area nonprofit organizations.

Each year, Unison is dedicated to supporting initiatives, events, and organizations that enhance the quality of our members’ lives. With more than $425,000 in donations, sponsorships, and gifts, our mission in 2017 was to make our branch communities wonderful places to live, raise families, and play a little ball.

“Unison wants to be more than just another credit union, and we strive to play an active role in our branch communities,” said Mark Hietpas, Unison president and CEO. “Throughout 2017, we kept that goal top of mind and were able to make positive impacts in both our members’ lives and their communities.”

When you tally it up, 2017 was a great year filled with amazing memories, inspiring members, and worthwhile organizations:

Kaukauna Youth Baseball (KYB) had so much to celebrate in 2017! Serving more than 700 players ages 5 to 18, KYB was excited to announce the official name of its new complex, Unison Credit Union Park. The sports facility is anticipated to open in 2018 and will include four diamonds, a concession stand, a restroom facility, batting cages, and a pavilion. Unison is proud to support and promote the physical wellness of local youth and encourages community members to head out to a ball game!

The Appleton Youth Football Association can play games with an extra sense of security after Unison’s donation of two automated external defibrillator (AED) units. These devices will help keep both kids on the field and spectators safe as they travel with teams to practices and home and away games.

Unison was excited to recognize and celebrate five 2017 high school graduates who were the worthy recipients of the John Aman Memorial Scholarship. The program, which is given in memory of John Aman, our first CEO, awards $1,000 scholarships each year to students that act as outstanding stewards in their communities and exemplify our core mission of people helping people.

Unison is already excited for 2018! If you know of a nonprofit or community program that could benefit from our support, let us know. To learn more, visit the Community Service page.
