Ghost Branch

Unison Credit Union has a branch inside Kaukauna High School. Named after its mascot, the Galloping Ghost, the Ghost Branch opened in September 2002 and is a fully functioning credit union, offering savings, checking accounts, and even loans. Students, teachers, and staff at KHS access the credit union during first and second lunch.

Students also learn about the financial industry by working at the Ghost Branch. Unison is proud to be a part of this program to help students gain valuable business experience.

Programs and Presentations

Unison is committed to financial education. We promote positive financial habits in the lives of students from an early age. Our classroom presentations are designed to be grade specific and cover topics such as saving, budgeting, and ways to avoid making poor financial decisions pain. Plus, we share information on accounts, loans, and other products and services that help students gain the knowledge they need to stay on the path to a bright financial future.

During the the Classroom Credit Union program, second graders learn about financial concepts that relate to topics they have previously touched on in their social studies and math lessons. Over a 5-month period, we visit classrooms to conduct hands-on activities with students. At the end, students are rewarded with the special opportunity to open their own savings account – with Unison providing the first deposit!

Each spring, Unison sponsors the Kaukauna High School Reality Store and the Little Chute High School Reality Check. These are simulation games in which students are assigned a career, marital status, and family size. They are given a mock checkbook with the monthly income entered for their specific career. Students then visit booths manned by community members at which they pay their monthly bills. At each booth, students make decisions concerning a standard of living they’ll assume. Following the event, students discuss the impact of the educational choices they make today on their ability to enter various occupations and support their future desired standard of living.

Scholarships

The Unison Credit Union John Aman Memorial Scholarship awards individuals who best mirror the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and who have learned the importance of volunteerism and giving back to his/her community. This scholarship is given in memory of John Aman, the first CEO of the credit union, hired in 1970. His commitment to the credit union industry and community were evident through his passion for volunteerism and putting the needs of our membership first.
